Colleagues are being criticized by Yemi Alade for minimizing the Afrobeats genre

Singer Yemi Alade of Nigeria has scolded her coworkers for ignoring Afrobeats.

“I don’t see anything wrong in informing your listeners of the genre of music an artist makes, especially when you feel it doesn’t define your art,” the ‘Johnny’ crooner wrote on her X handle.

No need to be rude; just state your genre. To deny the impact of Afrobeats on the careers of all artists is to be hypocritical.

Some Nigerian musicians, like Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid, have spoken out against the Afrobeats genre, which is setting the stage for Alade’s social media eruption.

Everyone in the group insisted that they left Afrobeats since it became a cliche for all African artists.
