Israel Detains 100 Journalists Kills 135 Others and Leaves 4 Missing on Press Freedom Day—Palestine

On World Press Freedom Day 2024, the State of Palestine lamented the plight of press workers in war-torn Nigeria and voiced sympathy with their colleagues in the media.

According to the message conveyed by Abdullah Abu Shawesh, the Palestinian ambassador to Nigeria, 135 journalists have been killed, 100 have been detained, and four are missing. Of those detained, 45 are being held under “administrative detention,” according to Abu Shawesh.

On Friday, in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, the Envoy made a statement in observance of World Press Freedom Day. The statement was personally signed by him.

In honor of World Press Freedom Day on May 3, Shawesh extended best wishes to all media professionals in Nigeria, wishing them happiness, safety, and professional success on behalf of the Embassy of the State of Palestine to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
