On Thursday, five soldiers were killed in an attack on a military checkpoint in Abia, Abia State. The outlawed separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has distanced itself from the incident.
As the group announced their celebration of Biafra Day, five soldiers were slain at the checkpoint when assailants ambushed them and opened fire.
Emma Powerful, speaking on behalf of IPOB, issued a statement in which the group accused politicians of being behind the attack.
According to Powerful, “politicians” are to blame for the assault on the troops at their checkpoint in Aba.
As he warned Governor Alex Otti to be wary of individuals plotting a crisis involving Aba, he said that the attackers intended to sow disarray in the state.
“They are planning to create problems in peaceful Enyimba City; so the Governor of Abia State must be careful (because) they (politicians) are coming to create crisis in Aba,” the IPOB spokesman continued.
