The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has declared that it is the people’s time to reap the benefits of democracy in his state.
While entertaining a team from Course 17, Syndicate 2 of the National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja, at Government House Umuahia, Otti made the declaration, stating that he was determined to bring excellent government to the populace, rather than just a few privileged politicians.
Politicians, he claimed, had enriched themselves to no end with the common wealth since the restoration to democracy in 1999.
The Governor informed his audience that he felt strongly about helping the masses, who had been mistreated by the ruling class, and that his recent decision to pay off pensioners’ pension arrears since 2014 was an example of that.
“Pensioners from Abia will never be owed their money again,” he declared.
He went on to say that starting in April, he had also ordered that they be paid on the 28th of every month alongside workers.
“Politicians have benefited themselves considerably over the last twenty-four years,” Otti further stated.
