Two hundred and twenty people in Enugu detained on suspicion of kidnapping and other crimes

Two hundred and twenty people have been taken into custody by the Enugu State Police Command after they were allegedly involved in various crimes committed throughout the state, including rape, armed robbery, and kidnapping.

In a press conference updating reporters on the Command’s actions from April to May 2024, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, Enugu State’s police commissioner, made the announcement.

According to the Commissioner, while investigations are ongoing, some of the suspects have already been arraigned and remanded at detention centers. The others will face charges after their cases are finished.

The suspects were apprehended both within and outside of the state, according to CP Kanayo.

A total of 202 individuals were taken into custody, with 35 of them being accused of kidnapping. The remaining suspects were detained on charges of armed robbery, vandalization, murder, cultism, rape, and unauthorized possession of guns.

He said the rape suspect was taken into custody on April 25th after defiling a 4-year-old girl and severely damaging her residence.
